Home Bass-Jons Tournament Results 2011 Northwest River - October 1, 2011

Northwest River - October 1, 2011

Bass-Jons finished their season by fishing three consecutive weekends, which culminated with an event on the Northwest River out of Bob's Fishing Hole.  Reports indicated that dissolved oxygen levels were very low at the ramp due to all the rain we have had recently, so the thought process was to get as far from the ramp as possible to try to find fish.  Nine boats showed up to fish.  The three larger boats who were able to run to North Carolina were rewarded with good fishing, as all boats who made the run brought in 5 fish.  The six boats that stayed in Virginia to fish reported no confirmed bass bites the entire day.

Roccoa Spurlin and guest Wayne Jennings brought in the biggest bag in the closing event at 11 lbs even.  Their 5 fish bag came on bubble gum trick worms.  Second place went to Jim Carlson and Matt Jennings with 5 fish for 8 lbs 8 oz.  They caught their fish on a mixed bag of baits, including spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and trick worms.  Third went to Victor and Aida Lopez with 5 fish for 8 lbs 4 oz.  Their bag included the tournament big fish at 3 lbs 12 oz.

Although it was a somewhat anticlimatic finish, the Angler of the Year race has been tight all year, so it is only fitting that the winner came down to a tiebreaker, total season weight.  Rick Burton prevailed by catching approximately 4 lbs more this season than Mike Peregrine.  Congratulations to Rick, and also to Mike for having such a great season!  The Co-Angler of the Year title also finished in a tie, and although Aida Lopez pulled even with Dave Evans with her 3rd place finish, Dave managed to take home the Co-Angler of the Year via the tiebreaker (94 lbs 14 oz to 93 lbs 11 oz). What a close finish!  Again, both anglers had great seasons, so congratulations to both.  Michael Taylor took home the Junior Angler of the Year award, while Roccoa Spurlin and Mike Kane tied for Lunker of the Year at 6 lbs 14 oz.  Roccoa's fish would be considered by many to be the "Upset of the Year", because he caught the fish on the Nottoway River, which isn't necessarily known amongst club members as a "big fish factory".  Congratulations to all who won awards and to the entire club for fishing hard all season!

Next up is the Classic on Lake Cohoon on October 15th.  Lake Cohoon was chosen as the Classic fishery by a vote of club members.  It was picked over Lake Prince by an 11-8 vote.
